4/12/2013: Bike Team Update
Spring break started on March 9th, where the team went down to Long Run Park Circuit Race. We then came back to Bloomington for two-a-days on the track, where coaches Todd Cornelius and Charlie Crouse made multiple appearances to help us. Even after 7 days of tough training, we decided to go to the Tour of St. Louis races for even more racing. With a spectacular sprint Matt Andress won his first race.
Quals was the weekend following spring break. Again, we had the 8 a.m. qualification time. The purple haze was out in full support early in the morning to watch the team get 7th place, placing us on the inside of the third row next to Phi Delta Theta. Individual Time Trials was the next event in the spring series. Charlie McClary broke the top 15 with a time of 2:29 and was shortly followed by Matt Andress, Scott McClary and Michael Khamis. Miss n Out was the next event. Matt Andress made his way to the second round and then the semi finals before being eliminated. Scott McClary also made it to the second round. Charlie McClary opted to go with the IU Cycling Club to the Michigan Get Tough Road Race and Crit. The race provided great training because it had a four mile dirt/gravel section that resembled the Little 500 track. This weekend we will take on Phi Delta Theta in Team Pursuit.
